American Patchwork & Quilting® magazine is challenging quilters, crafters, and sewers across the country to make a difference as part of the 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge. Since 2010, the challenge has been encouraging local quilting enthusiasts to help reach the goal of making and donating one million pillowcases to benefit local charities. More than 700,000 pillowcases have been created and donated to date.
For people who love to sew or quilt, it’s so easy to lift spirits and provide comfort to hospitalized kids, homeless families, and others in need.
We will be donating some of the pillowcases to:Housing Families in Malden, MA

We will provide the sewing machines, tools, patterns, instruction and 'Sewn By' tags. All you need to provide is the fabric. The basic pillowcase uses 1 yard (3/4 for the main and 1/4 for the cuff). We have fun fabrics that range from about $7-$12 per yard. ANYONE can attend - no prior sewing experience required and all ages are welcome. We ask that children under 7 sew with an adult. You can keep your pillowcase if you like or make more than one.
The event will be running all day and we will take turns using the machines if necessary. We can cut the fabric for you at the cutting counter and the pillow cases only take about 20 minutes to sew. We will have snacks and drinks! The $5 is a deposit to reserve a spot. It will be refunded if you bring fabric or applied to your fabric purchase the day of the event.
If you can't attend, but would like to donate pillowcase, you can find free patterns at AllPeopleQuilt.com
. We will accept donations in the shop at any time.
