Job Title : Part Time Associate
Job Description : Crosscut Sewing Co. is a fabric shop and sewing studio located in Melrose, MA.  We offer a variety of fabrics and sewing supplies for quilting, craft projects, accessories and clothing.  

Our fully equipped workspace has a variety of tools, machines and equipment.  It is a place where people who share a common interest can work and learn together.  We have brand new, state of the art sewing, embroidery, overlock and coverstitch machines.  Create the project of your dreams without having to purchase expensive equipment or sacrifice your dining room table!  

Our workspace also serves as our classroom.  We offer classes for many levels and interests.  Classes start at age 8 for children.  For adults we offer a variety of instruction from beginner sewing to advanced workshops.  We LOVE beginners!!!  We know once you stitch that first stitch you will be hooked.  We have everything you need in our classroom, so all you have to do for classes is show up!  

Crosscut Sewing Co. also offers a variety of handmade accessories and gifts helping to inspire the makers that come into our shop.  These handmade items also support independent local designers and makers.

We are looking for part time help to join our staff.  Candidates should be friendly and outgoing and have a passion for sparking creativity.  

Responsibilities Include:
  • Help customers and answer questions.  Knowledge of fabric and sewing is necessary.
  • Process customer transactions throughout the store such as at the cash registers and cutting counters
  • Assist in receiving, stocking, organizing, and displaying product according to store standards
  • Maintain awareness of and assist with price changes, plan-o-grams and promotional signage.
  • Take pride in the store by maintaining the cleanliness, recovery and operational standards throughout the store.
  • Cut fabric and make bundles
  • Prepare and ship online orders
  • Maintain tidiness of the workspace.  Make sure everything is put back in its place.
  • Sign customers in and of the workspace
  • Ready the classroom for classes.  
  • Prepare kits for classes and the shop.
  • Contact students to confirm classes
  • Ensure that all students have up to date paperwork

Additional responsibilities like sewing, teaching, photography and social media posting may be assigned depending on experience.

Have a willingness to learn and develop your fabric and craft product knowledge.
